Winner’s not quite ready
Mr Harrison said his Canberra oilseed rape has “done pretty well”.
He has finished combining his 12ha (30 acres) of Canberra, which yielded 3.71 t/ha (1.5 t/acre) with an 11% moisture content.
He said he had tried to make a start on his 90ha (220 acre) Winner oilseed rape.
“We started harvesting the Winner but had to stop because it wasn’t completely ready.”
Mr Harrison has finished harvesting his 14ha (35 acres) Pearl barley, which did roughly 6.18 t/ha (2.5 t/acre) while the moisture content was between 17-18%.
“Which isn’t bad considering the very sandy soil it’s on.”
Mr Harrison said that the “quality is good” but screenings are slightly high.
“There are flat parts which are more difficult to harvest.”
However Mr Harrison is hoping for better weather ahead.
“If the bad weather continues then we’ll lose quality.”
