Winter barley still not harvested
Glyn Jones from St. Asaph, Wales said in his area there is still winter barley to harvest.
The main reason is that the contractors haven‘t had time due to delays caused by wet weather.
“The rain just isn‘t giving people the chance to get the crop off the field.
“You can see the crop lean over more and more after each spell of rain.”
Not many farmers have started to harvest wheat in the area but the crops look good, he says.
“It‘s a fantastic crop – I honestly believe that the lowest crop would be yielding 4 t/acre (9.88 t/ha) – we couldn‘t wish it to look any better.
“We had just enough rain for everything to start off. We were lucky.”
The challenge now is to get the crops harvested.
“You can have the best crop ever, but if you can‘t get it out of the field then its very frustrating for farmers.”
