Yields slightly up in Norfolk
Norfolk farmer Sam Fairs has finished 680ha of wheat, four days ahead of last year. He said yields are slightly up but rain has been a continual problem this year.
He said Glasgow has been the highest yielding and was a very good variety, and Brompton also did very well.
“The sheds are full, so it must be ok.”
He said quality of later crops has not been as good after 80mm of rain in August, but those harvested before were fine.
He plans to drop spring barley from the rotation next year: “It did not yield well enough to grow again.”
