Whole of UK at risk from nematodirus risk

The whole of the UK is now at high-risk from nematodirus hatch, sheep farmers are being warned.

“The UK has now reached the temperatures required for hatching of nematodirus,” warns industry-led group Sustainable Control of Parasites in Sheep (SCOPS).

Lambs between six to 12 weeks of age are at particular risk and experts are advising farmers to start monitoring parasitic worms using faecal egg counts as a guide to when to start treating.

SCOPS advises farmers to use a white (1-BZ) drench to treat lambs at risk.
