Arla to work with dairy farmers over carbon footprints

Milk processor Arla Foods UK has appointed a specialist to help dairy farmers in its direct supply group reduce the carbon footprints of their businesses.

Graham Wilkinson will work closely with Arla Foods Milk Partnership members to reduce carbon emissions at farm level.

The processor says it has managed to reduce CO2 emissions in its business by nearly 30% since 2004.

The processor said Mr Wilkinson would work with retailers to drive new environmental initiatives at farm level, and advise farmers on “countryside stewardship schemes”, suggesting much of the focus will be on offsetting emissions as well as reducing them.

Arla Foods’ Ian Cameron said: “This is a challenging and important role as environmental issues become increasingly important.”
