Best bidding for females

ONCE AGAIN beef Shorthorn females coaxed the cash from buyers at Perth to achieve five bids over 2000gns, with a top call of 2800gns paid for a served heifer from the Tofts herd.

The roan-coated Tofts Lovely W573, from Playfair Farms, Kelso, is by Groveland Puccini and out of a cow by Anonga Simon. She stood reserve female champion and heads for the Shetland Isles with E Graham.

Ayrshire-based breeders T McLatchie paraded the female champion. Their dark roan 2003-bred heifer Millerston Augusta Wren made 2600gns to A and C Ivinson, Penrith, Cumbria. She is by Balmyle Zeus and out of a dam by Chapelton Fulcrum.

Messrs Munro, Inverness-shire, gave 2200gns for Holmeere Wendy 3rd, a seasoned show winner from M Holmes” herd at Wolverhampton, West Midlands. This heifer combined some of the best of Chapelton, Glenisla and Uppermill breeding.

A draft from Hants breeder D Rutherford’s Aylward herd reached 2000gns given by R McKechan for Aylward Rothes Queen 25th, a served heifer by Uppermill Landlord. The bid was matched by H Hopper, Driffield, East Yorks, who secured the red-coated served heifer Aylward Tessa 5th, who is by Wenmar Nomad.
