Big spenders push prices up at Stockton reduction
A reduction sale from Suffolk breeder John Sinnett’s Stockton flock last weekend saw some big spending, with prices reaching 14,000gns.
That bid came for a shearling gimmer by Crosemanor Jubilee King and out of a Stockton Stanley ewe.
She was a first-prize winner at the Royal Show this summer after standing reserve breed champion at the same show as a ewe lamb.
She was bought by Keith Evans for his Plasllewelyn flock, who also took her full sister, the 28,000gns Stockton Sentinel at Edinburgh in 2003.
The gimmer is in-lamb to Strathisla Scorpion.
Tough competition for ewe lambs levelled 24 head at 942 with the highest bid of 4200gns for a twin-born Cairness Impact daughter.
Buyer was D Jones, Aberystwyth.
Another ewe lamb made 3500gns when Shetland-based breeder Bryden Nicolson took one by Stockton Gold Sovereign.
He also paid 4000gns for a stock tup by Strathisla Dead Lucky which stood champion at the Royal Show last year.
Also at 4000gns was Cairness Impact, a son of Muiresk Momento.
Bought at Edinburgh last year for 20,000gns, he was reserve supreme champion at the Royal Welsh Show and has already bred a ram lamb at 20,000gns.
The third of the flock’s stock rams to be offered made 4500gns when Chris Holmes claimed Stockton Gold Nugget for his Rookery flock in Worcs.
This ram is out of a 3000gns Muiresk dam by Stockton Almighty.
Topping the Texels at 6000gns was a gimmer shearling by Cairness Just The Job out of a Muiresk Forever ewe.
Joint buyers were John Forsyth (Glenside) and Bruce Renwick (Castlecairn).
She was in-lamb to Castlecairn L A Lover bought in partnership at Lanark this year for 36,000gns.
