AHDB levy payers can get a hefty £3,000 discount on management development course costs.
The deadline for applications to the AHDB Professional Manager Development Scheme (PMDS) is 31 October. The course starts in January 2019 and includes 10 sessions spread over a 14-month period.
Run by Cedar Associates, the training aims to raise the level of professionalism in the agricultural industry by showing farmers how to apply business intelligence from other sectors and improve people management and communication skills.
AHDB levy payers are eligible for a discount of £3,000 on fees, leaving a total of £950+VAT to pay.
Organisers said previous course members reckoned the payment had been an investment, with an average benefit for each business of about £28,000 achieved through implementing the tools and techniques learned.
Feedback from earlier courses showed the benefits continued to increase as the managers honed their skills as time went by.
AHDB senior skills manager Tess Howe said: “The skills we have all relied on in the past are not necessarily the skills required to ensure our businesses thrive in the future.
“As businesses respond to a changing market, skills needs alter and our management skills need to develop to ensure we get the best out of our employees and others that support the business, such as consultants, advisers and contractors.”
The AHDB added that interviews would take place on 12 November and the panel would be looking for individuals who wanted to improve their own management skills and could implement change where required.
“It is essential that participants have the full support of their employer/staff team.There is no pre-requisite in terms of qualifications, but applicants must be able to complete reports and commit to attending all training sessions,” the AHDB added.
