English Winter Fair: Deadline looms for best local producer

The hunt is on for the best local producers of sausage, pies, bacon and gammon at this year’s English Winter Fair, Stafford, on the weekend of 15-16 November thanks to sponsorship from the British Pig Executive.

Retail butchers and those running rural or farm shops who produce their own products on-site will have the chance to compete for a coveted BPEX Gold, Silver or Bronze award. Product category prizes are renowned for helping champion locally made goods ahead of the hectic year-end sales period.

And there’s just a few days left for producers to place their products with organisers for the competition’s eight categories that include traditional pork sausage, best beef/lamb sausage, traditional pork pie, speciality hot and/or cold eating pies, best home cured bacon and home-cured gammon.

Entries must be lodged with the English Winter Fair’s show secretary, Kate Tomlinson, by 1 November, 2008, by logging on to www.staffscountyshowground.co.uk and clicking on the EWF button on the main menu or calling 01283 820 012.
