FFA milk price fight continues

FARMERS FOR Action has welcomed the decision by Asda to increase its milk price by 0.5ppl to its 600 Arla farmers.

But the campaign group still insisted that the move was not sufficient.

“We obviously fully commend this move, but have told Asda it falls far short of getting the other 14,000 producers a decent milk price, and we still require Arla to reinstate the 0.4ppl they removed in September,” FFA chairman David Handley stated in a press release.

Mr Handley added that direct action from the FFA will continue until the 0.4ppl are reinstated by Arla.

The FFA has staged several protests at Asda distribution depots over the last few weeks, and this week (w/e Nov 5) action has taken place at Skelmersdale and Bristol.

The protests have been well attended, according to Mr Handley, and further action is planned for Thursday (November 4) evening in Scotland.
“We will then discuss with Asda whether they have had a change of heart. If not, we will make plans for next week,” Mr Handley stated.
