Firm bidding for Holepark Holsteins

Auctioneer Norton & Brooksbank sent 190 Holsteins from the Holepark and Reymerr herds under the hammer at Bristol last week, where prices reached 1450gns.

Kent dairy farmer Edward Barham from Cranbrook was dispersing his Holepark herd and had farmed in partnership with Gordon Reynolds, who offered a consignment from Reymerr herd, which he will continue with his daughter Clare.

The top call came from John Young who took Reymerr Dusky 67th to his Llanover herd at Abergavenny.

She is a third calver by Painley Knightingale. Mr Young also gave 1250gns for a Holepark heifer by Wintersell Succession.

David Cullimore from Berkley, Gloucestershire, took 12 young cows for his Mobley herd paying up to 1400gns for a Storm daughter.

The sale’s 13 served heifers averaged £950 with nine heading for Carmarthen, South Wales, with Bill Lewis.

A yearling by Weeton Jackson reached 600gns.

Averages: 121 cows and calved heifers £632, 13 served heifers £950 and 26 served and maiden heifers £568.
