Green light for poultry wind turbine

A north-west poultry business has secured planning permission for a 98ft-high wind turbine aimed at generating most of the company’s energy needs.

According to a report in the Bury Times, Raymond Taylor and his son Daryl secured permission from Bury Council last week to install the turbine at Singlehurst Farm.

They hope to have it up and running by the end of the year and believe it will allow the farm to slash its existing energy annual bill of £90,000.

The family calculate that the time taken to pay for itself will be between one and seven years, depending on how windy it is. Daryl added: “When it’s very windy the turbine can power the whole farm.”

Besides the cash saving, the family is also aware of environmental issues. “Our carbon footprint is something we are becoming aware of and it will become a bigger issue in future for customers,” said Daryl.
