Health Plans split opinion

VETS REMAIN divided on the use of health plans, despite their widespread acceptance by milk buyers for farm assurance.

According to vet Matt Dobbs of Westpoint Vet Services, for some herds, health plans are only a tick-box exercise with no demonstrable value of vet intervention.

He believes those who have made it a success have showed the impact on farm costs.

“Health planning needs to demonstrate financial as well as health returns and vets need to offer specific economic benefits not intuitive assessments of gains.”
