Kinaldy Jewel shines among Angus females

Aberdeen Angus females began this week’s Perth sales with a top price of 3800gns and an average of £1324 for 47 head.

Highest call was for a maiden heifer from the Kinaldy herd of St Andrews breeder George Milne.

Kinaldy Jewel Erica D032 is by Lady Croft Punch – a son of the top-producing imported sire Dalrene Cruz – and out of a good cow by Galcantray Preditor.

Her Breedplan figures show a Terminal Sire index score of +12 and a 400-day EBV of +33.

Placed fourth in her class under judge Alistair Cormack, she sold to veteran stockman Ian Anderson.

A 3000gns call during the collective offering saw Perthshire vendors Messrs G & A McFadzean’s Cherrybank Edwina D825 pass to Charolais breeder Neil Barclay, who runs the Harestone herd at Banchory, Kincardineshire.

His son Stewart is in charge of the family’s Angus herd and added this daughter of Rawburn Transformer.

Edwina D825 is out of a dam by leading sire TLA Northern Samurai.

Her Terminal Sire index is +26 and 400-day EBV is +57.

Pulled forward to take the championship was Banchory breeder Cavan O’Dwyer’s served heifer Craigour Eurevine C045.

By Evoke of Monkwood this May 2003-bred heifer had been pregnancy-diagnosed in-calf to Craigour Express.

She realised 2200gns to Ivan Jobb, Co Tyrone.

A smart cow and calf outfit from Aberdeenshire breeders Neil and Graeme Massie’s Blelack consignment caused a stir.

The cow, Blelack Jury Erica A209, made 3000gns to Glasgow breeder Alasdair Fletcher.

She is by the successful sire Aberan DMM Decision and out of a dam by HF Ricochet.

Her May 2005-born calf, by Blelack Black Gold, realised 1500gns to Orkney buyer Ronnie Baillie.

Averages: 47 females 1324. (United Auctions)
