Livestock 2012: Recruitment ‘dating’ service in development
A recruitment “dating service” is being developed to aid agricultural employers and young people wanting to get into the farming.
Speaking at a Livestock 2012 seminar – A future for British dairy: business in partnership – Country Land and Business Association (CLA) agricultural advisor Ed Barker said the National Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs (NFYFC) was collaborating with bodies such as the CLA to develop a matching service for agricultural jobseekers and potential employers.
“We are really at the stage where we are talking about this – it’s a good way of pooling everyone that’s out there and identifying what opportunities exist,” he said.
“The concept has come from the NFYFC and they have obviously identified the problems from the perspective of the applicants and I’m looking at it from the perspective of the employer.”
Fragmented supply of employment opportunities in the industry, a need for new skills and a broader scope for new entrants has brought about the need for this matching service, he added.
It is hoped the service will:
- Assist in establishing and promoting join ventures or share-farming agreements
- Produce a database of potential employees and opportunities through regional delivery
- Provide professional career and recruitment advice
- Offset any risk factors posed to business owners and farmers
