Mackintosh elected new NFU livestock board chairman

Alistair Mackintosh has been elected chairman of the NFU livestock board after former chairman Thomas Binns was voted off.

Mr Mackintosh, who farms sheep and beef cattle at Ravenglass, Cumbria, has been a member of the livestock board for two years. He will serve in the post of chairman for two years.

Speaking after his appointment Mr Mackintosh said: “The livestock sector is facing a number of challenges.

“It is crucial producers receive enough for their product to enable on-farm reinvestment and ensure a sustainable future.

“We also need to look at reducing the regulatory burden that we are under as well as dealing with the cost-sharing agenda and finding a way forward on bovine tuberculosis.”
