Barbers holds milk price for December

Cheesemaker Barbers is keeping its price stable for December, at 27.79p/litre for 4.2% butterfat and 3.4% protein supplies.

This puts its rolling 12-month price at 28.7p/litre on the same constituent criteria.

However, in its newsletter, the cheesemaker pointed out that mature Cheddar prices are £400/t down on the year, at £3,150/t.

The 25% US import tariff kicked in on 18 October and will affect the market, although the extent of this is unknown – cheese exports and others affected are working with their customers to mitigate the effect.

Barbers shipped extra volume earlier than usual to meet demand for the Thanskgiving market (28 November) and to avoid the taxes.
