Travel scholarship on offer for Welsh red meat farmers

A travel scholarship worth £3,000 is on offer for any individual working in the Welsh red meat sector from levy body Hybu Cig Cymru (HCC).

The scholarship has been running for 22 years and is open to people of any age to study a specific red meat-related topic.

Past scholars have focused on themes including greenhouse gas emissions and production efficiency; genetic improvement in sheep; butchery and charcuterie practices and sustainable intensification.

Successful applicants have travelled to many countries, including America, Australia, Norway and New Zealand.

Potential scholars will need to have come up with a research topic they want to pursue and a destination country (or countries) that will further this aim and benefit the Welsh red meat industry.

Upon returning, they will be expected to submit a final report and then share their findings with the industry by speaking at meetings and conferences.

The application form is on the HCC website and further information can be obtained from industry development executive James Ruggeri on 01970 625 050 or
