Pig prices remain static

SPOT AND CONTRACT pig prices remain static, demonstrating a need for better uptake of UK pig meat.

Although the GB Deadweight Average Pig Price (DAPP) rose by a modest 0.2p/kg last week (w/e Oct 15), to 100.04p, most values have remained unchanged.

Baconers for this week (commencing Oct 18) are fetching 100-103p/kg before deductions, but lighter weights are enjoying slightly better demand with cutters at 104-107p/kg.

Cull sow prices have risen by 32% over the past six months, but have now eased slightly to 84-86p/kg for export specification pigs.

The lack of weaner accommodation is continuing to hit prices, with the Meat and Livestock Commission‘s 30kg average of £31.12 ex-farm still some £2-£4 below cost of production.
