Ringside at…Welshpool Livestock Sales
Buyers from across the country flocked to the mid-May Fair on Tuesday (10 May) to compete for 700 conventional and 150 organic store cattle. Trade was even across all types of stock, with the best cattle very much in demand, said auctioneer Keith Davies.
Steers averaged 174p/kg liveweight, and peaked at 202p/kg, or £1,050 for a 615kg Limousin cross from BL & CDL Williams. Heifers settled at 160p/kg, and reached a top of 192p/kg, or £888 for a 565kg Charolais cross from RJ & SM Burgoyne. Bulls averaged 171p/kg.
In the organic section, a 620kg Belgian Blue cross steer from I Evans & Son fetched the top gross price of £1,050, with a 450kg Limousin cross heifer peaking at £880 for the same vendor.Read more market reports here.
