Sainsbury’s growth continues

Supermarket group Sainsbury’s has announced a 6.7% growth in sales for the final quarter of its trading year.

The growth in the 12 weeks to 22 March tipped the supermarket’s sales growth for the year to £2.7bn, higher than its £2.5bn target.

Like-for-like sales for the period were up 6.0%, while full year like-for-like sales grew by 3.9%, continuing the group’s sales growth over three years.

Justin King, Sainsbury’s chief executive, said while the market remained “challenging”, the supermarket was well-positioned to meet consumer demands.

Sainsbury’s will announce its preliminary annual results on 14 May.
