Scottish meat processing firm, RY Henderson & Sons went into administration this week with 54 out of 72 staff being made redundant.
Ernst & Young has been appointed administrators of the firm, which earlier this month put its £4 million meat plant in Linlithgow up for sale.
The state-of-the-art factory, opened only last September by the Princess Royal, was the first new abattoir developed in Scotland for 25 years.
A statement from Ernst & Young said tough trading conditions had resulted in the decision by the directors of the family-run business that it could no longer continue to trade.
Joint administrators Tom Burton and Colin Dempster are seeking a buyer for the assets as a going concern and the business is continuing to operate on a reduced basis.
