Shrewd buys pay off at Janmi Holstein fixture

Yorkshire buyers took prices to 4200gns when Michael and Jane Hunter’s Janmi Holsteins were dispersed last week, but average prices for in-calf heifers almost matched the trade for cows.

The Janmi herd, established just 20 years ago, made its mark with some shrewd cow purchases from well-known families, and members of the Rosina and Bowe families caused most interest.

Brian Moorhouse, who sold most of his Aireburn herd at Skipton earlier this summer, paid the day’s top price, for Janmi Aiden Rosina (VG-85).

Due in a month with her third, she is by the homebred sire Janmi Rudolph Aiden and out of the 100t cow Templedale Julia Tab, who was bought for 6000gns at the Eranda herd dispersal in 1997. Aiden Rosina is in-calf to Robthom Integrity.

A younger sister, Janmi Lyster Rosina, topped the in-calf heifers. Lyster Rosina is bred from six generations of VG and Excellent cows and was served in February to Ladino Park Talent.

She made 2000gns to local breeders A Lawson & Son for their Newbirks herd.

Janmi Aiden Bowe 3rd, another daughter of the homebred sire Janmi Rudolph Aiden, realised 2000gns.

She is out of a Mark Foothill dam and traces back to the show-winning cow Myersgarth Pabst Bowe Ex-90.

Aiden Bowe 3rd heads for Dumfries to join the Holywood herd of Robert Whiteford.

West Yorkshire buyer Geoff Booth invested 2000gns in Janmi Permission Nicola.

A daughter of Sudesse Permission, she is out of a Counselor dam and was served in January to Rosedale-L-Rampage Red.

Mr Booth also gave 1700gns for Janmi C Lee Bowe, a Comestar Lee third calver out of a show-winning dam by Aerostar.

Bids for maiden heifers pushed prices to 950gns when Janmi Kite Bow sold to Metcalfe Farms, Leyburn, North Yorks.

She is by Markwell Kite and out of a Lee dam.

Averages: 52 cows ÂŁ1089, 23 served heifers ÂŁ1077 and 10 maiden heifers ÂŁ652. (Norton & Brooksbank)
