Wales red meat promoters offer £3,500 travel scholarship

Wales livestock producers have the chance to be paid to travel the world to push the country’s red meat industry forward.

Hybu Cig Cymru – Meat Promotion Wales (HCC) – is offering a scholarship of up to £3,500 for a four- to six-week trip.

Past scholars have travelled to Europe, Australasia, North and South America, looking at topics as diverse as sheep genetics and charcuterie.

After returning, scholars have to report their findings to HCC and the wider industry, through talks to farmer groups and other scholarship activities.

HCC technical development executive Lynfa Davies said the chosen scholar would have free rein to travel to a country of their choice and investigation new, innovative techniques.

“The red meat sector needs ambitious people of all ages to drive the industry forward in the future,” she said.

“The HCC livestock scholarship is an opportunity to broaden your horizons and increase your knowledge of the red meat sector beyond Wales.”

To qualify, applicants must work in the Welsh red meat industry at any level, from farming up to processing.
