White wheat growers needed

Northamptonshire food company Weetabix is looking for more growers to supply the white wheat variety Zircon for use in a range of its products.

Annual contracts for the niche market are available through Centaur and Grainfarmers (soon to be Openfield) and offer a fixed £15/t premium over feed, based on 74kg/hl specific weight.

Centaur’s Richard Jenner said the offer would appeal to growers in the eastern counties and East Midlands, within a reasonable distance of the Weetabix plant. Zircon is an early-maturing variety and may suit planting after sugar beet or other late-lifted crops.
