Winton and Kilton herds to 3600gns

Bidding reached a top of 3600gns twice when stock from the Winton and Kilton Holstein herds went under the hammer at Norton & Brooksbank’s sale centre at Penrith, Cumbria.

Moved from their home at Beverley, East Yorkshire, the younger adult portion of John Waring and Sons’ Winton herd were first at 3600gns when Skipton breeder Brian Moorhouse took the milking heifer Winton Encounter Lauriane.

This VG-85 two-year-old daughter of Indianhead Encounter was bought as part of the rebuild of Brian and Judith Moorhouse’s Aire-burn herd, which held a major sale recently.

Lauriane has tremendous depth of breeding behind her – all from the same family developed by Whittier Farms in the USA.

Andrew Robinson is herd manager to the Kilton herd at Worksop, Notts, and it was one of his own entries that achieved the joint top price.

His Hundredacre James Sally, a Shoremar James daughter, traces back to the Sherwood View Sadie family and is out of a 9900kg dam by Hanover-Hill-R Spirit.

Averages: Winton – 93 cows and heifers £1352, 28 served heifers £1079.

Kilton – 32 calved heifers £1431.
