Livestock 2012: Ultra early maize variety launched

A new ultra early maize variety is now available for farmers.

Recolt KWS from KWS UK offers 37-39% dry matter and stable 99-100% yields from an FAO 160 rated variety.

Compared to variety Kentaurus, Recolt KWS has better vigour, is marginally earlier to harvest and has a slightly higher yield.

It has a feed value of 11.6MJ/kg and a starch content of more than 36%.

According to KWS maize specialist John Burgess, the market is continuing to move towards short season hybrids with earlier flowering.

“Fast, early vigour is also an increasingly sought after characteristic and combine both in one variety and the grower can make the most of whatever seasonal conditions are thrown at his crop,” he says.
