Applicants for New Zealand farming scholarship wanted

The Rich Wigram New Zealand Farming Scholarship is seeking applicants for its 2017 program.

The charity, set up in memory of Rich Wigram who died in 2010 aged 34 after an accident on his New Zealand farm, aims to send two candidates out to the country every year.

Successful applicants will experience New Zealand dairy farming  through a work placement.

The scholarship includes a return ticket to New Zealand and help and advice in finding work on a suitable dairy farm for about 10 months, allowing a couple of months for travelling or other work at the end of the year.

Previous scholar Zoe Jackson described the trip as an “amazing opportunity”.

“I would hugely recommend anyone who is considering it to give it a go.

“Working in New Zealand is a life-changing experience for me, something I can hold on to and benefit from in the later years of my life.”

To apply for the 2017 scholarship, leaving the UK in June/July, you must have turned 18 by the 31 December 2016.

The charity says: “We are not necessarily looking for highly academic people, what we want is enthusiasm, a keen desire to learn, initiative and someone who is prepared to work hard when required.”

The closing date to apply is 31 January 2017. Successful applicants will then be invited for a relaxed interview.
