FFA production strike gets underway

Farmers For Action says about 3500 farmers have pledged support for its three day production strike which started on Wednesday morning (Nov 2).

The strike is designed to draw attention to the low prices farmers receive for their products and the dominance of supermarkets.

Producers who have offered their support have pledged not to send 50% of their milk, market finished stock, sell potatoes or any vegetables during the three days.

FFA chairman David Handley said he was disappointed that more farmers had not joined the strike, but said he was pleased by the level of media interest because it would raise consumer awareness.

The story is running on Sky, ITN and the BBC and in The Independent, the Times and The Scotsman.
