PHOTOS: Digging out the oldest working combines

Harvest isn’t all about shiny 600hp Claas Lexions. Every year readers send us pictures of decades-old kit that is still dutifully playing its part in bringing in the crop.

Nigel Gribble sent us these pictures of a 45-year-old Fahr combine which has been put to work cutting winter barley at Lynher Farm in Cornwall.

“The combine still cuts around 20 acres,” said Nigel, “but these days it has a helping hand from our neighbour’s newer machine.

“My 73-year-old father still insists on driving it and we were hoping to make it to 50 harvests. We think it’s the oldest working Fahr M66 in the country and would be interested to know if this was true.”
