PICTURE STORY: NFU bags 14 gold medals at Chelsea Flower Show

A display showcasing the best of British horticulture has won the NFU their 14th consecutive gold medal at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

Award-winning florist Penny Riley masterminded the display of British flowers, plants, fruit and vegetables to highlight the diversity of British horticulture. This year’s display was created around a series of pyramids, representing a range of horticulture micro-climates.

NFU horticulture adviser Dr Chris Hartfield said: “I am absolutely thrilled that we have once again been awarded a gold medal by the RHS judging team. To win a medal of any colour at Chelsea is an honour but to pick up 14 gold medals in a row is an outstanding achievement.”

As always the sell-out RHS Chelsea Flower Show is proving to be a runaway success. More than 150,000 people are expected to pour through the gates of the Royal Hospital in Chelsea this week to see the grounds transformed into a riot of scent and colour.

Initial concerns that flowers might be in short supply after an exceptionally cold winter proved unfounded, with more than 600 exhibitors transforming their stands into stunning gardens and horticultural displays.
