The opening day of the final Royal Show attracted 2000 more visitors than last year, according to provisional figures from the Royal Agricultural Society of England.
The first day was attended by 25,900 people, compared with 24,000 in 2008.
Denis Chamberlain, RASE marketing director, said organisers were pleased with the figures given that heavy showers in the morning would have put a number of people off.
The RASE is expecting the final two days of the show (Thursday 9 July and Friday 10 July) to be the busiest. It is hoping that numbers will rise as farmers turn out to mark the passing of an era.
The show is hoping to attract about 100,000 visitors in total.
