Second edition of popular promotional booklet published

Essex farmer Guy Smith has produced an updated version of his promotional booklet Food, Farm and Countryside.

Working closely with the NFU, 100,000 copies have been printed and are now available to anyone who wants to hand out literature that makes the case for British agriculture in a colourful, readable, format.

The initial print run in 2005 proved very popular with 200,000 copies being distributed.

Commenting on the project Mr Smith said: “It was very rewarding to be involved in something that got so much support from the industry to make it work.

“Over 800 organisations from all over the country wrote to me asking for packs of the booklet. From people leaving them in farmhouse B&B bedrooms to giving them out at open farm days or just leaving them in doctor’s waiting rooms, it was great to see people being imaginative and effective in getting the key messages in the booklet out to the non-farming public.

“We are all fed up with our industry being painted as always in some way failing or wanting.

“This initiative is one way we can try to correct that. Since running out of copies I continue to get lots of requests for it. I am very pleased the NFU have now financed a reprint so I can start getting copies out again.”

Copies are available from NFU Regional offices or by writing to Guy Smith at The Pump House, Wigboro Wick, St.Osyth, Essex. CO16 8ER. The booklets are free but £12 is required to cover the postage fee to send out a pack of a hundred. Cheques should be made payable to VOBA.
