Soggy summer scuppers concert
BRITAIN‘S SOGGIEST summer has forced the Royal Welsh Show‘s centenary fund committee to cancel a gala concert planned for next month.
The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and a host of top musical celebrities were due to perform at Glanusk Park at Crickhowell, the home of Shan Legge-Bourke the fund‘s chairwoman.
But when the organisers checked the cost of providing comprehensive weather protection for the performers they found that it would make the whole event uneconomic.
But they claim that despite the weather other fundraising activities are continuing in all parts of Wales.
Money raised will pay for a new centenary centre at the Society‘s Builth Wells showground.
