Its been close for several weeks now, but the first £100 hoggets have now arrived, courtesy of Borderway Mart, Carlisle.
Yesterday’s primestock sale saw Texel cross lambs from Messrs Reay, St Oswalds Farm, Hexham hit bang on the ton mark.
In a trade described as the dearest so far this season, the top price/kg was recorded at 233.8p/kg for Texels from W L Musgrave, Cardew Hall Farm, Dalston, while the entire entry levelled at 179.36p/kg or £77.13/head.
St Boswells Market, meanwhile, recorded a top price of £101/head for Texels from J G Grieve, Lee, Innerleithen and a top of 206.8p/kg for Texels from Oakwood, Selkirk.
