Pedigree black and white heifers reached a ceiling of 2,560gns at Holstein NI’s March show and sale, Moira.
Sale leader at 2,560gns was the fourth placed Annalong Wyman Cortown 4 from Wesley and David Gordon’s 210-cow herd based at Annalong, County Down. Sired by the Braedale Goldwyn son Pirolo Goldwyn Wyman, she is bred from Annalong Breakout Cortown 3 EX92, who gave more than 9,800kgs at 4.51% butterfat and 3.14% protein in her fifth 305-day lactation. Highest bidder was Will Herron, Newtownhamilton.
Following close behind at 2,500gns was the unshown Hilltara Jeeves Dawn, a potential fifth generation VG or EX heifers from Sam and John McCormick’s herd at Bangor, County Down. Sired by Ked Outside Jeeves, she is bred from Hilltara Gibson Dawn 3 who has produced an average of 9,725kgs at 3.79% butterfat and 3.28% protein in four lactations. This one also joins Will Herron’s County Armagh herd.
The sales supreme champion was awarded to Sam and John McCormick’s Hilltara Mistral Meggie 2. She was sired by the home-bred Gen Mark Stmatic Sanchez son Hilltara Mistral, and bred from a dam backed by 12 generations of VG and EX dams. This one came under the hammer at 2,280gns, selling to Gordon Davis, Dromore, County Tyrone.
The McCormick duo also scooped the honourable mention award with Hilltara Fever Daydream. She was described the judge as a very correct heifer with a level top. Sired by Crackholm Fever, she was bred from Hilltara Toystory Daydream. Buyer at 1,980gns was Will Herron.
David and Gary Throne, Strabane, realised 1,880gns for the unshown Willofarm Kitty 81. Sired by the Glen Valley BW Captain son Willofarm BW Captain, she is bred from Willofarm Kitty 62 VG88, who averaged 10,459kgs at 4.37% butterfat and 3.44% protein in two lactations. This potential fifth generation VG or EX heifer also joins Will Herron’s herd.
Harry Patton, and sons Wilson and Wallace, Newtownards, realised 1,800gns for the unshown Ards Gunnar Ruth. Sired by the Braedale Goldwyn son Gunnar, her dam is Ards Mr Sam Ruth VG who produced over 12,390kgs at 4.10% butterfat and 3.02% protein in her fifth 305-day lactation. Backed by ten generations of VG and EX dams she sold to David McClurg from Crossgar, County Down.
The reserve champion was Wesley and David Gordon’s Annalong Wyman Dusty 2. She sold to Sam Gilmore, Tandragee for 1,660gns.
