38 Degrees – the online debate

• Why is it that the only answer that farmers come up with to solve a problem is to kill something? If this cull goes ahead I will be boycotting all English dairy products and advise others to do the same. Then we can hit them where it hurts – in their pockets.

• This could be a case of ignorant townies interfering with something they know nothing about. If we don’t eradicate bovine tuberculosis (bTB) then the whole of the UK will be an infected area.

Malcolm

• “The haphazard badger cull should be opposed because it simply will not work – we don’t even need to discuss the morality of mass slaughtering wild animals in order to make our agricultural system more profitable.”

Blue Rock

• What people have to realise is that the proposed badger cull is not anti-badger, it is anti-TB. Cattle measures – including pre-movement testing, movement restrictions, routine testing and surveillance – will all remain the foundation of these TB controls.

• The welfare and safety aspects of this policy are hugely worrying. Some badgers will certainly be wounded with consequential devastating bad publicity for farmers and the government.

ChrisGale41

• Isn’t this more complicated than just voting against a badger cull? What about the thousands of cows that are being killed because of TB? This debate shouldn’t be happening in this popularist and polarised way – it’s far too serious.
