Alexanders’ crossbred heifers sell to average £1775

James and Nelson Alexander’s sale of 100 in calf heifers at Ballymena last week drew a capacity crowd, with the sale topping at £2750.

Hitting the headlines at £2750 was a Charolais heifer sired by Tullygarley Alibaba out of a British Blue x Simmental cow. She sold in calf to Middledale Allrounder.

Buyer here was Derek Johnston who travelled from Newry to attend. Mr Johnston purchased the largest number of lots at the Jalex sale which earned him 1t of Corby Rock meal in addition to a number of straws of Black N Blue Diesel.

There were a number of lots that crossed the £2000 mark, with the sale achieving a 100% clearance and an average of £1775.

Export buyers also made their presence felt with a number selling to the south of Ireland, in addition to a consignment purchased by Neil Barclay, Harestone Farms Aberdeenshire.
