Averages back as British Blue brace hits 10,000gns

Two 10,000gns bids were achieved by sires from the Almely and Solway View herds at Carlisle over the weekend (18-19 May) at the annual show and sale of British Blue bulls and females.

Averages were back for bull classes and numbers were lower, barring the senior bull classes that sold six more (26) bulls this year and two more (four) recipient heifers, levelling at £3491.25.

Maiden heifers were £134.62 dearer on the year at £2,859.

Last year’s highs for Dragon Blue Kai (24,000gns) and Bedgebury Kent (15,000gns) were not matched, leaving a solid senior bull average of £5,060.19 and leaving overall bulls at £4,908.75 for 20 fewer sold.

First at 10,000gns was Almeley Kendrick from GL Morgan, Tillington, Hereford, and was knocked down to JR Cussons and Sons, Morra Head Farm, Scarborough, North Yorkshire.

The long, eye-catching sire is by Drybarrows Cawdale and out of Rosemouth Faith, going back to Hazelwood Uranus and Giga Du Bois De Remont.

His half-brother Pinnacle Hero won the Royal Welsh Show 2017 champion rosette, with Kendrick’s breeder tipping him as ideal for pedigree use.

Solway View Levi from Kevin Watret, Annan, Dumfries and Galloway, matched this call. Levi is by Solway View Firecracker and out of Bringlee Evadine, bringing a carcase yield index of +18 and a breeding index of +13.

He caught the eye of RA Cadzow, Scremerston, Berwick.
