Ballymena Texel shearling ewes reach 2800gns
Texel shearling ewes sold to a peak of 2800gns at Ballymena last night, with a number of news and established breeders seeking out the best bloodlines available in Northern Ireland.
Top price was an ET bred daughter of Tamneymoney Ned from Alastiar Gault’s Forkins flock.She is a full ET sister to 65,000gns tup Forkins Rocksolid, being out of a Clynnog Joe Tex dam. Buying her was Harper George, Crumlin.
Hot on the heels of this at 2500gns was the reserve female champion from Andrew Fyffe, Fairywater. This one is a Conerstone Iasaac daughter out of a dam by Knock Impulse.
Richard Henderson sold to a top of 2400gns from his Ballynahone flock. This was paid out by Adrian Liggett for a Mullan Playboy daughter out of a Douganhill McFly dam.
The female champion from J and R Currie’s Tullagh flock also caught the eye selling at 2000gns to Leslie and Karen Beacom, Ballywalter. This Gruig Outlaw daughter is out of a dam by Castlecairn Keltic Star.Late in the sale Nigel Ross collected 1900gns for the third placed ewe from the show class. This Forkins O’Driscoll daughter is out of a dam by Fairmount Landmark and sold to J Neville.
Just a few lots earlier the Hanthorn Family sold a Knock Powerhouse daughter for 1800gns to Mr Ellis. The maternal sister to this shearling sold in 2010 for 4600 guineas. And a full sister to the reserve female champion sold for 1700 guineas.
