Balmoral Show 2013: Dairy Interbreed

The championship rosette was awarded to Quilly Farms’ Sahara Goldwyn Ambrosia, under the watchful eye of dairy stalwart John Gribbons. This Braedale Goldwyn daughter was exhibited by Andrew Kennedy and is from the prolific female Toystory bloodline. Her dam, Smiddiehill Toystory Ambrosia, made 27,000gns at the Smiddiehill dispersal sale in 2008.

Ambrosia was purchased for 5,100gns from Sahara as a maiden heifer. She calved five weeks ago and is currently giving 50kg a day, at 5.01 fat and 3% protein.

In reserve was John Hunter’s champion Ayrshire Ardmore Orphan, who was shown by his son Michael. It was the first outing this year for the homebred five-year old, who is sired by Morwick Sand Ranger and out of Ardmore Orphan. She calved in November and is currently giving 36kg a day.
