100,000gns world record price for Limousin bull

A Limousin bull set a new world record price of 100,000gns last weekend at Borderway livestock market, Carlisle.

Breeders Matt and Craig Ridley sold Haltcliffe Vermount a 21-month-old bull whose two sons have sold for 61,000gns.

The winning 100,000gns bid came from Gary Swindlehurst, herd manager for Procters Farm, Slaidburn, Lancs.

“I’ve never seen a bull like him. He’s got width and muscling that put him completely in a league of his own,” said Mr Swindlehurst.

Haltcliffe Vermount (BV +26) weighed 950kg on the day and stood champion.

He is an ET-bred calf out of the successful French cow Renoncule and is by Penyrheol Sam.

“Sam has the class, style and breeding that comes from his pedigree which includes Cannon and Heros.

“Vermount has inherited those traits plus tremendous width and shape,” said Craig Ridley.

Averages: 37 senior bulls £3024, 57 intermediate bulls £5069 and 37 junior bulls £3524 (Harrison & Hetherington).
