Charolais Venture sets record at Royal Northern

The Royal Northern Spring Show at Thainstone, Aberdeenshire, last week saw a new centre record with a 7500gns call for the Charolais bull Kinclune Venture.

Consigned by John Wilson of Glenkindie, this May 2004-bred bull stood second in his class.

He is by the 14,000gns Perth bull Caylers Solomon and out of Kinclune Tottie, one of the herd’s best breeding cows.

Buyers were J A Mitchie & Sons, Keith, Banffshire, who beat Mr Wilson’s previous spring show record of 7000gns.

This multi-breed event saw a strong trade for Charolais sires. Breed champion Elrick Valour from Michael Massie, Mains of Elrick, Auchnagatt, proved invincible in the line-up for the supreme championship and took the title.

This March 2004-bred son of Blelack Nextnews realised 5200gns to A & D Hunter, Scatsta, Brae, Shetland.

Other significant deals for Charolais breeders included Pitsligo vendor R Leggat, who saw his Bonnkelly Vampire, a Maerdy Rumbull son, make 3200gns.

Leading the Limousins at 3500gns was Whitelums Vince, a Whitelums Vitchie son from Dr S Ingram, Inverurie.

He stood champion and went to A Sleigh and Sons, Tarves.

Other high-priced Limousin bulls included Gordon and Douglas Cruickshank’s Balnacraig Victory at 2400gns.

He is by Croftlimousin Spencer.

Another from the same herd and by the Croftlimousin sire made 2000gns and a third by Ryedale Paragon matched the bid.

Innerwick Jaguar sired the champion Simmental bull Tillyeve Renaldo.

He realised 2000gns for owners C & M Bruce, Ellon, Aberdeenshire.

Buyers were P & P Duncan, Banff.

The liveliest Simmental bidding came for the section leader Harestone Rupert.

This Carnkern Titan son from Neil Barclay’s herd at Crathes made 3500gns.

Retanach Ecobang topped the Aberdeen Angus section taking the championship for owners J & A Strathdee, Rothiemay, Huntly.

By Netherton Billyman, he realised 2700gns to Sheepdrove Organic Farm, Lambourn, Berks.
