Renown earns top title as demand hits the heights

More than 80% of the Simmental bulls offered at Perth this week were sold with prices reaching 8000gns.

Standing champion and earning the day’s biggest cheque was West Lothian breeders Mr and Mrs L Moffat’s Innerwick Renown.

By Gortin Larry and out of a dam by Innerwick Jubilee, he had a Terminal Sire index of +21 and was bought by Messrs Strachan, Balmaud, Banffshire.

On home ground, Finlay McGowan enjoyed plenty of interest in his bull Dirnanean Reformer.

By Dirnanean Nickel, he is out of an Arkmill Franklyn dam whose son was junior champion at Perth two years ago.

Reformer had a Terminal Sire index of +28 and realised 7500gns to Tillymaud Farms, Ellon, Aberdeenshire.

Lisglass Romeo, another good son of Blackford Explosion, fared well for Co Antrim breeders J and C Weatherup.

He made 7200gns to G Francis, Carmarthen.

Another Northern Ireland contender equalled the bid when H Stubbs’ Derrycallaghan Rooster sold to Orkney buyers J and G Smith.

He is by a homebred son of Rosten Barney and out of a Carnkern Titan dam.

Making up a trio of 7000gns bulls was Morayshire breeder J Green’s Corskie Radium.

With a good Terminal Sire index of +27, he is by the 12,000gns Perth purchase Popes Laird.

There were two bulls at 6500gns.

Blackford Runrig from W MacPherson, Inverness, is by Blackford Northern Light, a bull sold to the Starline herd for 15,000gns.

Also at 6500gns was Kincardineshire vendor G Smith’s Drumsleed Royale, taken by Mr McAllister, Isle of Bute.

Heading for Aberdeenshire at 5500gns was Corskie Rory, another son of Popes Laird and bought by Steven Mackie.

Averages: 111 bulls 3403.
