Strong trade marks Western Holstein sale
Trade was strong at the Western Holstein Club’s Beeston Castle show and sale last week where deep pedigrees sent bidding to 2500gns and saw three calls at 2200gns.
Chepstow breeder Belinda Fox’s Copywood Sara Integrity topped the sale.
This beautifully bred September 2003-born heifer comes from five generations of VG and EX cows and her Prelude dam is maternal sister to the noted 2005 National Holstein Show champion Copywood Integrity Sara Red.
She was bought by Andrew Birkle for his Whinchat herd at Wymeswold, Leicestershire.
Another deeply-bred calved heifer from the Smith family’s Alandrew herd at Garstang, Lancashire, stirred the crowd and finished up bound for Anglesey with R, A & R Lloyd at 2200gns to join their Islandpride herd.
Alandrew Stormatic Doll 2nd is from the renowned Crudwell Doll family and is out of a Prelude dam.
Bill and Rob Windridge from Nuneaton, Warkwickshire, also took 2200gns for Heathridge CP Mattie, who stood reserve champion.
This calved heifer by Principal is out of an 11,600kg Progress dam and heads for the Ruckhall herd of Peter Andrews in Herefordshire.
He matched the bid for Lancashire vendors J & J Walmsley’s Fordswood Decisive Music, a calved heifer by Dromonby Decisive.
And a bid of 2000gns secured Franbeth Beautiful Scooter Red from Frank Shaw, Blackburn, Lancashire.
Following a 10,500kg heifer lactation she was giving 62kg on the day from a mid-February calving.
Buyers were W & D McClurg, Northern Ireland.
Averages: 13 cows ÂŁ1251, 76 calved heifers ÂŁ1219 and two in-calf heifers ÂŁ840. (Wright Manley)
