TB pilot scheme unveiled

An Animal Health pilot scheme could speed up the removal of TB reactor cattle from farms, saving livestock producers both time and money.

Instead of requiring a visit from Animal Health to detail how much compensation they will receive for TB reactor cattle, farmers will instead receive the information over the phone. This could save them the time of hosting an official visit and the costs associated with delayed removal of reactor cattle.

The scheme is being trialled in the Exeter, Gloucester and West Midlands regions throughout June and, if successful, will be rolled out across England permanently. As well as cutting farmers’ costs it will also examine the potential savings made by reducing the number of farm visits undertaken by Animal Health inspectors.
