Wexham Cup to Painley Kingsley

A PATCHY TRADE for bulls at the 53rd Wexham Cup show and sale at Beeston Castle, Cheshire, saw 41 young sires average £1147.

This year’s Wexham Cup awarded to the highest point-scoring bull – based on inspection and production – shown with his dam went to Cheshire breeders’ John and Valerie Barlow’s Painley Kingsley.

Kingsley, who realised 1800gns to Philip Gilman, Newport, Shropshire, is by Bosside Ruben and out of Painley Jabot Kimo 13th, a daughter of the 34t cow Primsland Inspiration Kimo, who sold for 10,000gns in 1990 and has five five-figure lactations with a best of 16,147kg.

Reserve ticket went to Derbys breeder Bill Nadin’s Sterndale Earlmatic. Buyers at 3000gns were L Brough and Sons, Cockermouth, Cumbria (Wright Manley).
