A 100% clearance was achieved at yesterday’s mid-month sale of Holsteins at Beeston, with the overall trade tremendous for all classes of stock on offer with only the best fresh heifers trading at lower prices.
Nevertheless a top price of £2350 was achieved for a fresh second calf red and white cow from regular clients Jack & Barclay Taylor of Myddle. This daughter of the Dutch sire Oudkerker Reno was sold giving 42 kg and sold to Robin Langford who was the days top buyer who purchased 40 head for his herd at Tattenhall.
He also purchased the top heifer, Astonwich Trix 10, a daughter of Comestar Stormatic that was giving 35kg and consigned by David Ishmael of Wigan. A total of just 11 animals sold for £2000 or more and these included consignments form Mark Bowden, E V and B Boughey and Alan Outram.
Several herds use the Mid Month as a vehicle to disperse their herd as they calve and these include Hague Partners of Stanthorne who are selling their Danevale Herd. Their top price was £2050 for a fresh third calver sired by Moet Strongman. Father and son team John and David Astbury of Church Minshull, Nantwich are also selling their non pedigree non recorded herd and their top seller was a fresh second calver which realised £1900.
Young Stock were a very fast trade; in-calf heifers sold to £1720 for a daughter of Moet Breakout due in September from Alan Orme of Whitley, Warrington. Maiden heifers were on fire selling to a top of £1250 for a daughter of Clwch Kiz Ifan from J E Williams, Pwllheli. Only one heifer calf was forward and that made £320.
