One of the youngest competitors, six year-old Freddie Shorrock, Burnley, exhibited another Beltex, which went on to become reserve champion and sold for £89 to Ilkley-based Rowland Agar wholesale butchers.

Winner of the 17-26 year old category was North Craven-based Kelly Armitage, Keasden, who sold a Beltex-cross lamb at the same money to long established Thirsk butcher Harry Lee, of H Lee and Sons Butchers.

The same buyers also paid £95 for a Beltex-cross-Texel lamb from six year-old Matthew Garth, Clapham, and £94 for a Texel-cross lamb from Robert Ellis, 16, Moorside.
