Book in for TB test on time – CLA

FARMERS ARE being reminded that they must book their cattle in for their routine TB tests on time if they want to avoid movement restrictions.

The warning has been made by the Country Land and Business Association‘s national adviser on bovine TB, Sarah Slade.

“Don‘t delay in booking your cattle in for their routine TB tests as, from 17 Feb, new measures mean that cows which are overdue for their test will have their movements restricted,” she said.

“This is a sensible measure to ensure that tests are carried out in a timely manner and we encourage herd owners to co-operate with the testing procedures.

“We only wish the government was as sensible about initiating a proactive culling regime.”

The new rule is one of a range of actions announced by DEFRA designed to improve bovine TB surveillance and reduce the risk of the disease spreading to new areas.

Herd owners should receive official notification of routine TB test requirements two to three months before they are due.
